Research, Policy, and Evaluation for a
Safe Water and Wastewater Supply

We provide research and policy support to ensure a safe and stable supply of water and wastewater services.
We are also advancing the digitalization of technical support and information management to enhance operations in the water resource sector.

  • Establishing Standards for the Operation and Management of Water Supply Facilities, including Accident Response

    • We are establishing design standards and manuals to manage water supply facilities more systematically and to prevent accidents through proactive safety measures.

  • Performance evaluation of the public sewerage system management outsourcing contracts

    • We are conducting performance evaluations of management outsourcing contracts for public wastewater systems—including wastewater and foul waste treatment plants—under Article 19-5 of the Wastewater Act, with the aim of enhancing contract expertise and operational quality.

  • Assessing Performance of Water Distribution System Rebuilding in Local Waterworks

    • We aim to provide clean and safe water and improve the efficiency of local waterworks management by reviewing the performance outcomes of rebuilding projects. These reviews help prevent the accumulation of aging water facilities and contribute to improving the revenue water ratio.

  • Assessment of the technical diagnosis results of water supply facilities

    • We conduct assessments of technical diagnosis results to enhance accuracy and expertise in the inspection of water supply facilities—such as water treatment plants and pipelines—under Article 74 of the Water Supply and Waterworks Installation Act.

  • Career and Qualification Management for Wastewater Engineers

    • We contribute to the advancement of the wastewater sector by systematically managing technical qualifications, educational background, career history, and training completion of wastewater engineers through the “Wastewater Engineer Career Management System.” This initiative helps address career discontinuity and ensures technical expertise.

  • WATER 119 (Technical Support for Waterworks)

    • We are providing on-site, customized technical support by forming a group of experts to handle problems and difficulties during the operation of water supply facilities and to suggest improvement measures.

  • Certification based on Water Treatment Standards

    • We operate a certification system to ensure the supply of pathogen-safe drinking water by evaluating the disinfection performance of water purification plants.

  • Customized technical support for public wastewater facilities

    • We organize expert teams to provide free technical support to public wastewater offices and management agencies that face operational and management challenges due to aging infrastructure and deteriorating water quality.

  • Joint water and wastewater research

    • Using a joint research fund established by the Water and Wastewater Research Council, we are addressing key issues faced by local governments—such as reducing redundant budget spending—and strengthening water and wastewater management capabilities through continued research.
